Sunjuwan: Attackers came from Pakistan, likely helped by locals
The Sunjuwan attackers had crossed over from Pakistan last year, were likely helped by locals, and had entered the base by cutting through tin sheets, J&K DGP SP Vaid has said. The toll has now risen to nine. But thanks to brave personnel like Subedar Madan Choudhary, who fought them with bare hands, the extent of the damage was controlled. Here's more.
The attack took place on Afzal Guru's death anniversary
Terrorists of Pakistan-based JeM stormed the camp in Jammu amid a high alert on the anniversary of Afzal Guru's hanging and attacked the family quarters. At least five security personnel were killed. Ten others, including civilians, were injured. A 14-year-old is battling for life. Three terrorists who have been gunned down were wearing army fatigues. AK-56 rifles, grenades and more were recovered from them.
Terrorists believed to have entered the camp through rear
The attackers have been identified as Qari Mushtaq (Chotu), Mohammed Adil (Irfan Bhai) and Mohammed Khalid Khan (Rashid Bhai). According to preliminary investigations, they entered the camp through the rear, where the boundary was secured only with metal sheets. Syringes were found where they were hiding before the attack. Police suspect locals helped with reconnaissance and weapons. The probe might be handed over to NIA.
This martyr fought terrorists while unarmed, saved his family
During the attack, Subedar Madan Lal Choudhary stopped the terrorists from entering his quarter and saved his family, who was visiting to go shopping for a family wedding. Despite being unarmed, Choudhary, who came from a family of defense personnel, fought them off and helped his family escape from the back. His daughter and sister-in-law suffered bullet injuries, but all survived.
