Delhi: Giant lizard found in NSIT girls' hostel
What's the story
The girls residing in Hostel-1 of Delhi's Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology found a monitor lizard in one of the rooms on May 16.
At around 11:30 AM, girls on the third floor were in for a shock when they saw the giant reptile.
Monitor lizards are venomous, and though their bites are not fatal to humans, they can lead to severe illness.

Lizard was locked inside washroom by girls
One of the girls, Kritika Anuragi, clicked a picture of the lizard and posted on Facebook.
Speaking of the incident, a member of NSIT's in-house newspaper The Alliance said, the lizard may have landed in the building after a severe storm the day before.
The girls somehow managed to lock it up in the washroom. The reptile was drugged by wildlife personnel and taken out.

Sighting of snakes, lizards common in NSIT campus
The NSIT campus is located in Dwarka in West Delhi. The presence of forests around the college makes snakes and lizards regular visitors at the campus.
However, this was the first time that such a huge lizard was spotted.
The Alliance put up a Facebook post asking students to stay alert. They were advised to not travel through jungles and only use the main gate.

In 2017, a monitor lizard scared people in Delhi Secretariat
Last year, a two-feet long monitor lizard scared people in the premises of Delhi Secretariat.
Back then, Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder, Wildlife SOS had said, "Monitor lizards pose no threat to humans. As a result of continuous deforestation and expansion of human habitation these largely misunderstood reptiles are often forced to wander out of their natural habitats in search of food and shelter."
