Bhagwat says Ram Mandir in Ayodhya will promote Hindu-Muslim peace
Speaking on the last day of the outreach programme, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said Ram Mandir in the disputed land in Ayodhya would ensure Hindu-Muslim peace, as it will eliminate disagreements between the two groups. Bhagwat said Ram is a God for many, and a lot of people consider Him to be an icon of 'maryada', and He is imam-e-hind (spiritual leader) for them.
There should be a temple at Ram's birthplace: Bhagwat
"There are some who consider Him as an icon of maryada (moral standard), for some He is imam-e-hind (spiritual leader). This is an issue of faith for all sections of society that where His birthplace is, there should be a temple," Bhagwat said.
According to Bhagwat, Ram Mandir should be constructed amicably
Further, Bhagwat added it has been proved a temple existed before and reconstructing it would solve a major issue. Notably, the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished in 1992, changing the country's dynamics. "The building of Ram Mandir will end a major issue of friction between Hindus and Muslims," he said and added constructing it amicably would silence those 'who point fingers at Muslims'.
About ordinance, Bhagwat says it's upto the government to decide
When asked if RSS supports the idea of an ordinance for building Ram Mandir, Bhagwat said it is for the government to decide. "The proposal to start a movement on the issue rests with the Ram Janam Bhoomi Mukti Yajan Samiti, I am not part of both," he said. He added as a swayamsewak he wanted the temple to be constructed soon.
Further, Bhagwat also said Ayodhya issue shouldn't be politicized
Notably, RSS affiliate VHP has been demanding for an ordinance to be passed in the Parliament. The matter is currently being heard in the Supreme Court, which maintained it will treat it as a property dispute. But Bhagwat said the issue shouldn't be politicized. "Had a decision been taken with nation's interest in mind, there would have been an early resolution," he said.
