PM Modi calls killings in name of Gau Bhakti unreasonable
Calling out to people and giving out a strong message to cow vigilantes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that killing under the garb of Gau Bhakti is untenable and unacceptable. Finally breaking his silence over the sensitive issue of mob lynching innocents in the name of cow protection, PM Modi asserted that India being a non-violent country cannot behave as such.
PM Modi breaks his silence post Ballabhgarh lynching
Seven days after the Ballabhgarh train lynching incident in which 16-year-old Junaid was killed on the pretext of carrying beef in his bag, PM Modi broke his silence saying killing in name of protecting cows was unacceptable. Modi also advocated Gandhi's non-violence saying 'Bapu' wouldn't have approved of such violence. He also added that law must not be taken into one's own hand.
Cases of mob lynching in name of Gau Bhakti
With cases of mob lynching in the name of Gau Bhakti on the rise, here are few cases which depict the apathy in India. Two men were killed in Assam's Nagaon for allegedly stealing cows. Dairy farmer was beaten to death in Alwar for transporting cows. The infamous Dadri lynching in which a Muslim man was lynched on allegations of keeping beef at home.
Where is PM Modi?
PM Modi who is in Gujarat to attend the centenary celebrations of the Sabarmati Ashram, spoke of Mahatma Gandhi's doctrine of non-violence relating to the lynching incidents in the name of Gau Bhakti. The PM also attended the 150th birth anniversary of Srimad Rajchandra.
PM Modi's take on lynching: Political gimmick or real concern?
PM Modi's stance post the Ballabhgarh lynching is noteworthy but it does leave some questions to be pondered upon. Firstly, is it the social media outburst, the reason behind Modi breaking his silence? The protest under the banner "Not in My Name" seems to have had its impact. Secondly, the coming of Gujarat polls later this year seems to be another reason.
