Cow vigilantes attacked by mob in Ahmednagar
Violence in the name of cow protection refuses to cease. Yet another incident was reported from Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra where a mob attacked gau rakshaks after they stopped a tempo suspecting it of transporting cows for slaughter. At least 7 people have been injured in the dreadful incident which took place near Shrigonda police station.
Tempo owner, driver arrested for illegal cow transportation
One of the members of the gau rakshaks, Shivshankar Rajendra Swami said they received information about a tempo transporting cows illegally and reported to Shrigonda police. The police intercepted the vehicle and rescued at least 10 oxen and 2 cows. The police then arrested tempo owner Wahid Shaikh and driver Raju Fatrubhai Shaikh under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act.
30 people booked for inciting violence
At least 30 people have been booked under Section 307 and 395 of the IPC following the incident. Ahmednagar DSP Sudarshan Munde said that an investigation is underway to ascertain the trail of events which unfolded leading to the violence.
Cow vigilantism on rise, over 26 cases of violence reported
Cases of cow vigilantism have increased manifold in the recent months. If reports are to go by, then India has seen at least 26 cases of cow violence in 2017 itself. According to an IndiaSpend database, nearly 70 cases of cow violence have been reported over eight years with 97 percent of cases being reported after PM Modi came to power in 2014.
