'Missing' Bengaluru techie fled to escape wife's constant 'shouting, torture'
A teary-eyed woman took to social media last week, begging for help in finding her husband, who had gone missing since August 4. In an unexpected turn of events, it so happens that her husband, a techie from Bengaluru, had gone missing deliberately. With hair trimmed short, he was seen coming out of the mall in Noida after watching a movie on Thursday and was brought back to his city by cops on Friday morning.
Initial investigation and breakthrough
According to his wife, he vanished after leaving to use an ATM. Initial police efforts yielded no results, as the technician had turned off his mobile phone, leaving no clues to pursue. They also examined multiple CCTV feeds from bus stations, railway terminals, and the airport but discovered no evidence of him. The breakthrough came when Gupta purchased a new SIM card in Noida and inserted it into his old phone, enabling the police to trace him.

Gupta's reluctance to return and revelation of marital issues
After the police located him, Gupta smiled and asked what next. But he was adamant on not going back, even going to the extent of telling them, "You put me in prison, I will live there...but I won't return." He eventually agreed after being informed that his wife's missing person complaint could only be closed in his presence. Upon his return on Friday morning, Gupta revealed that he'd been suffering from harassment and torture at the hands of his wife.
Gupta's allegations against his wife
In his statement to the police, Gupta detailed the alleged mistreatment. "She curtails my freedom, she shouts even if a drop of rice or a piece of chapati falls off my plate. I should dress according to her, I cannot go out alone to enjoy tea," he said, according to TOI. "I'm her second husband. When I met her around three years back...I was a bachelor and agreed to marry her. We have an eight-month-old daughter together," he told cops.
