'No begging please!': Venkaiah Naidu chides RS members over language
Under Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu's watch, there's no "begging" in the House. At the start of the Winter Session, Naidu had advised members to shed their "imperial mindset" and refrain from using the common phrase "I beg to lay the papers," with which ministers generally table listed papers. But when MoS Law PP Chaudhary used it again today, Naidu chided: "No begging please!"
What happened in the Rajya Sabha?
According to Naidu, ministers should say, "I rise to present the papers listed against my name..." Members have followed his advice; no one has used it since December 15. When Chaudhary used it today, Naidu reminded him, saying he was probably not present when he made the suggestion. When Chaudhary rose to present a different set of papers, he was seen following Naidu's advice.
Naidu has more similar advices for ministers
Naidu has more advices for the members, and when not followed, they are aptly chided. Like when they speak while seated, or when they deviate from their topic. HT likened him to a "strict headmaster".
