    What's the story

Intelligence sources have stated that a large number of militants have gathered on the Pakistani side of the LoC and are awaiting opportunities to infiltrate. They have the tacit support of the Pakistani Army too.

Sources revealed that there has been a 3-fold jump in infiltration attempts in 2016.

Forces have been put on high-alert and counter-insurgency operations are being set-up.

How infiltration bids are on the rise

The Home Ministry released data detailing the spurt in infiltration attempts and terror incidences in the last 3 years.

According to the data, there were 364 infiltration attempts last year compared to 121 in 2015, of which 112 successfully infiltrated last year, as against 33 in 2015.

The numbers are far greater than those from just 3 years ago.

    Terror

    Increase in terror incidents

The government also recorded a 54.81% increase in the number of terrorist incidents and 110.25% increase in fatalities of security forces.

150 militants were killed in 2016 compared to 108 in 2015, while 82 security force men were killed in 2016 compared to 39 in 2015.

However, the government also recorded an 11.7% decrease in the number of civilian casualties.
