"Metro devi" Nikita Devi talks about her 'KBC' experience
The 'KBC' episode which was telecast on Diwali introduced Nikita Vaid to the world, a metro driver who won Rs. 3.2 lakh in the show. Nikita is one of the youngest locomotive pilots of Noida Metro, and four generations of her family have served the Railways. Though she didn't earn crores in the popular quiz show, Nikita said she will always remember it.
Nikita's family worked for Railways, she is a Metro pilot
Nikita comes from a family that has served the Railways. Her great-grandfather Karam Chandra was Kalasawa station's superintendent before Independence. His son and Nikita's grandfather Suresh Pal served as section engineer in Indian Railways in Lucknow and Moradabad. Her maternal grandfather also worked for Railways, and Nikita took the family tradition ahead. But she would be driving a Metro and not the traditional locomotive.
Big B introduces her as 'metro devi'
In the show, host Amitabh Bachchan welcomed Nikita as 'metro devi', and this elated her. The 23-year-old is the station controller and train operator for Noida-Greater Noida Aqua line. After initial screenings, Nikita secured a place for herself in the fastest finger first round and cleared that to sit across the legendary actor. She said playing the game was different than watching it.
Watching the show is easy, playing it is another thing
Describing her experience, Nikita said when the show is watched on TV, it seems easy but it is far from it. "However, when you reach there, you feel the pressure and tension. Answering fast till the timer is there, also makes it tough," she told TOI. She added the pressure was enormous due to which she couldn't take a few decisions.
Nikita admired Big B, left show as a bigger fan
While the entire experience was surreal for her, Nikita said Big B was the best part of it. She said she loved his movie 'Piku' and 'Paa'. "I told him that Piku and Paa were my favorites and he recited the best 'No means no' dialogue from Pink," she said. Nikita went on a trip to Vaishno Devi with her family after the show.
