    What's the story

It was reported that "animal rights activists", allegedly a part of the NGO People for Animals, attacked three men in South Delhi who were transporting buffaloes, assuming they were cow-smugglers.

The victims have been admitted to AIIMS for injuries. Their truck has been shifted to the Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animal.

It is unclear whether police initiated any action against the perpetrators.

    Violence form gau rakshaks

Violence from vigilante groups claiming to be protecting cows has been on the rise across the country. Several elected representatives have endorsed this style of mob-justice, adding to concerns.

A man in Rajasthan was recently beaten to death for transporting cows, despite having valid documents.

A family of five including a 9-year old girl were injured after they were attacked for transporting their livestock.

    Information

    PFA denies involvement

Union minister Maneka Gandhi is the chairperson of People For Animals. She clarified that "We have no PFA unit in Delhi. We have 10,000 volunteers across the country. Whoever acted did so in his individual capacity."
