    What's the story

Taking a cue from the Delhi Police model of self-defense program for girls, West Khasi Hills (WKH) district authorities in Meghalaya have appointed former Karate World Champion Linza F Syiem to train school girls to fight against sexual harassment.

Funded by District Sports Promotion Society, the initiative is aimed at a deterrent against eve teasing, hooliganism, indecent behavior, or public nuisance on the road.

    POSCO Cases

POSCO cases doubled in WKH district in 2016

District Deputy Commissioner said, "For the first time we are starting month-long comprehensive self-defense training under the District Sports Promotion Society."

West Khasi Hills district registered high numbers of POCSO cases. Also, the number of such cases has risen in the last three years.

The National Crime Record Bureau data recorded 6.8% crime against women in 2015, which got doubled in 2016.
