Here's how you can renew your vehicle registration online
What's the story
Thanks to the digitization of services, renewing your vehicle registration in India is now a breeze!
No more waiting in long queues at the RTO. With just a few clicks, you can now take care of this crucial task from the comfort of your home.
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to renew your vehicle registration online, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.
Step 1
Understanding the prerequisites
Before you start the renewal process, make sure your vehicle insurance is current.
Under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it's illegal for any vehicle on Indian roads to operate without valid insurance coverage.
Check the expiration date on your policy and renew it if needed.
Also, ensure that there are no outstanding e-challans against your vehicle as they can obstruct the renewal process.
Step 2
Navigating to the official portal
The next step is to navigate to the official Parivahan website (https://parivahan.gov.in/).
This portal serves as a comprehensive platform for accessing various transport-related services across India.
To renew your registration, hover over the "Online Services" dropdown menu and click on "Vehicle Related Services."
Select your state from the list to continue.
Step 3
Filling out Application Form 25
Once you choose your state, you'll be redirected to a page where you have to input your vehicle's registration number and click on "Proceed."
Locate Form 25 - Application for Renewal of Registration under 'Available Services' and complete it with accurate information.
This form will ask for details about your vehicle, its insurance policy, and more.
Step 4
Uploading necessary documents
After you have filled out Form 25, it will ask you to upload a few documents.
These include a copy of a valid insurance policy, proof of address (Aadhaar Card or utility bill), Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and photographs of your vehicle with a clearly visible number plate.
Make sure all documents are clear and within the allowed size limits for successful uploading.
Step 5
Making payment online
After uploading the documents, you will have to proceed to make the payment online.
The renewal fees depend on the type of vehicle: ₹300-₹600 for two-wheelers and ₹600-₹1,500 for four-wheelers. This does not include late fees, if any.
You can make the payment using net banking, credit or debit cards, or UPI options available on the portal.
