Thane factory explosion triggers massive fire, over 20 evacuated
Several people are feared trapped after an explosion at a chemical factory in Dombiwali, Thane, near Mumbai triggered a fire. The incident occurred on Thursday when a boiler inside the factory, situated in MIDC Phase 2, exploded. Witnesses reported hearing three distinct blasts from the factory premises. Nearly 30 people have been rescued so far from the burning building.
Rescue operations underway, uncertainty over trapped workers
Dr. Nikhil Patil stated, "We are waiting for more people to be rescued. The workers on the day shift were inside the factory when the explosion occurred." The exact number of people still trapped inside remains unknown. Meanwhile, the fire department has deployed around 15 engines to control the raging flames, with officials estimating over four hours needed to completely extinguish the fire.
Blast impact shatters nearby windows, spreads to other buildings
The severity of the explosion was such that it shattered windows of nearby houses and spread to two other buildings, including a car showroom. The extent of the damage caused by this incident is still being assessed. Preliminary reports indicate that several people may have been injured due to the blast.
