If you don't want to share your Aadhaar, use this
In a bid to enhance the safety and confidentiality of Aadhaar, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new feature called- 'Masked Aadhaar.' The option allows the user to cover/mask the 12-digit Unique Identification Number, in the downloaded e-Aadhaar. The Masked Aadhaar can be used for e-KYC at places where sharing of the Aadhaar number is not necessary. Here's more.

The difference between Regular and Masked e-Aadhaar
The UIDAI portal lets users download e-Aadhaar in two formats- Regular and Masked. A regular e-Aadhaar is a downloadable, password-protected electronic copy of your Aadhaar, digitally signed by the UIDAI, and is equally valid as the physical-copy for all purposes. In 'Masked Aadhaar' option, your 12-digit UID is hidden and only the last 4 digits are shown; all other information remains the same.
How to download?
First off, log on to the UIDAI website. Next, under the 'Aadhaar Online Services' section, click on 'Download Aadhaar' link. On the next page, select 'Masked Aadhaar' as your preference. Now, enter the required details viz. Enrolment ID/Aadhaar Number/VID, Full Name, Pin Code and Security Code. Finally, click on 'Request OTP' button, and then enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
