Farmers mark 100 days of 'Delhi Chalo' protest
Farmers have congregated at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points to commemorate the completion of 100 days of their ongoing protest, known as the "Delhi Chalo" march. The demonstration began on February 13, and since then, farmers have been camping at these border points, urging the Centre to meet their demands. They include a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Farmers assemble at border points, criticize government
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader Sarwan Singh Pandher confirmed that farmers have gathered at Shambhu, Khanauri, and Dabwali border points for the occasion. Pandher accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government of hindering their protests in Delhi and criticized the heavy police presence at the border points between Punjab and Haryana. The farmers plan to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Patiala on May 23, and if denied access, they will hold a dharna.
Farmers's protest impacts BJP's Lok Sabha campaign
The ongoing protests have negatively affected BJP candidates in Punjab, who are encountering opposition from farmers during their campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. As part of their protest strategy, farmers are questioning BJP leaders and showing them black flags for not agreeing to their demands. Polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will take place on June 1.
