    5 Maoists sentenced to death by Bihar court

    What's the story

    5 Maoists have been sentenced to death by a court in Bihar's Munger district.

    The sentence was over an ambush attack on CRPF forces near Kharagpur town in Munger, which ended with the deaths of 2 CRPF jawans.

    The prosecution added that the accused were wanted in several other similar cases.

    The accused were also fined Rs. 50,000 each by the court.

    The case

    What was the case about?

    On April 10, 2014, a CRPF battalion was on the way for deployment at a polling station as Lok Sabha elections were underway at the time.

    At 4 AM, Maoists triggered an IED blast near the truck that was ferrying the CRPF jawans along the Gangta-Lakshmipur Road in Haveli Kharagpur.

    Two CRPF jawans Ravindra Rai and Som Gowda were martyred in the ensuing gun-battle.

    The five Maoists, Rattu Koda, Vipin Mandal, Adhiklal Pandit, Bano Koda and Manu Koda were arrested and charged under Sections 302 (murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, with deadly weapon), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 307 (attempted murder).
