Sisodia allowed to meet wife once a week under custody
The Delhi High Court on Friday permitted Delhi's former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to visit his ailing wife once a week under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sisodia is currently detained in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. His wife, Seema, has been suffering from an acute attack of multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune condition of the central nervous system.
Sisodia's plea challenged a trial court's ruling
The high court granted permission while considering Sisodia's plea challenging a trial court's April 30 ruling that rejected his bail application in the money laundering case. The Aam Aadmi Party leader also requested the court to uphold the trial court's order permitting him to visit his ailing wife once a week while in custody. This request was granted, as the counsel for the ED stated that the investigative agency had no objection to continuing the order.
Sisodia arrested in Feb 2023
Responding to Sisodia's bail plea, Delhi HC's Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma sought a response from the ED and CBI and listed the matter for further hearing on May 8. To recall, the CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26 last year, stating that they recovered several "incriminating evidence" against the AAP leader in the excise policy case. Delhi's Rouse Avenue court later sent Sisodia to Tihar Jail. The ED later arrested him from the jail.
