Man accused of murdering three siblings found dead in jail
A man accused of shooting dead the three minor children of his cousin was found hanging yesterday in the Kurukshetra district jail. Jagdeep Malik had earlier said he had killed the kids as their father, who was having an extramarital affair, wanted to get rid of them. Later he backtracked and confessed about a property dispute. A probe has been launched into his death.
The kids were shot dead one by one
On November 19, Malik reportedly took the children Sameer (11), Simran (8), and Samar (3) to Morni forest on the pretext of taking them to Gita Jayanti Mahotsav in Kurukshetra. After reaching a deserted spot, he raised the volume of his car's music system, took Sameer inside the forest and shot him dead. He did the same with the other two.
Accused had tried to put the blame on the father
Initially, Malik and the kids' father were taken in for questioning. He then claimed he had done it at the behest of the father, who wanted to marry his paramour. Both men were booked for murder. But later, he admitted it was the fallout of a property dispute. He was arrested two days after the crime and sent to judicial custody.
Children's mother had alleged shoddy probe
Recently, the children's mother Sunita had met Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, alleging shoddy probe by the police. The CM had formed an SIT to investigate the case. The team conducted polygraph tests on the children's father as well as Malik's wife. After reports of Malik's death, Sarsa sarpanch Karambir said, "We will reach Kurukshetra to claim his body on Friday."
