To remind PM Modi of promises, Odisha man walks 1350km
In a bid to remind Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise of building a super-speciality hospital in Rourkela, an Odisha man started a journey on foot to Delhi. 30-year-old Muktikant Biswal wished to meet PM Modi to voice his concerns. Instead, he was given support by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said Congress will fulfil PM Modi's promise.
Three years ago, PM Modi promised a multi-specialty hospital
On his visit to Odisha in 2015, PM Modi had promised citizens he will upgrade the existing Ispat General Hospital to a super speciality hospital, Biswal said. He had also said the Brahmani Bridge will be constructed soon. But three years on, the promises still remain unfulfilled. Biswal, who is an idol-maker by profession, said locals were dying in absence of a good hospital.
Lack of medical facilities forced Biswal to start difficult journey
Biswal said the absence of basic medical amenities to many Indians forced him to embark on the journey. "I want to meet the Prime Minister to request him to fulfil his promise of completing the Brahmani bridge in Rourkela, and an upgrade of Ispat General Hospital to a super-speciality hospital," he told ANI. Walking in scorching heat obviously hasn't been easy.
Biswal fainted near Agra but isn't losing hope
Biswal had to be admitted to a hospital after he fainted near Agra National Highway, but there has been no change in his motivation. "The national flag inspires me, that's why I carried it throughout my journey," Biswal said. He added even though the PM didn't keep his promise, he isn't losing hope. "He is going to do something this year," he said.
