Man tries to rape woman, brutally attacks her private parts
Women aren't safe anywhere, not on roads, homes, or even in hospitals when they take care of their loved ones. An incident which reiterates this sentiment happened on Monday evening in Bihar's Purnia. A woman who was attending to her son at a hospital was attacked by a man. The man tried to rape her and when he couldn't, he attacked her private parts with a sharp object.
Woman went out to relieve herself, accused attacked her
According to an HT report, the woman, who belongs to Saharsa, had come to the hospital to get her son treated. Her son suffered from burn injuries and was undergoing treatment since May 16. On the day of the incident, she went out in open to relieve herself, since the hospital's washrooms were dirty. There, the accused pounced on her.
The victim needed several stitches, she is critical
The victim foiled the rape attempt and the accused attacked her private parts with a sharp object. Hearing the victim's cries, another woman, who was nearby, rushed to her help. The victim was taken to the hospital's emergency ward and her condition is reportedly critical. "She needed several stitches as the injuries were caused by a sharp-edged weapon," a doctor told the daily.
The accused is at large, police have launched an investigation
Without wasting any time, the hospital authorities filed a police complaint. Police looked through CCTV footage to identify the accused, who is absconding. "Police are probing the matter from various angles and soon the man would be arrested," said SHO of Town police station. Meanwhile, another woman attendant claimed such incidents are common. She herself was attacked by a man earlier.
"Anti-social elements have ruined hospital's atmosphere"
"The hospital has turned into a bastion of thieves and anti-social elements. They target people during the night or in the wee hours when patients and their attendants are asleep," said a person in the know.
Separately, surgeon at hospital blamed attendants
Meanwhile, Dr. Madhusudhan Prasad, who is a surgeon at the hospital, claimed attendants don't cooperate with personnel and litter washrooms. "Many of them also don't want to use toilets and instead prefer to go out in the open to relieve themselves. Given the length and breadth of the hospital, we need more security," he said. He added they have sought help from higher authorities.
