Karnataka: Man hit by bus, dragged for 70kms
In a disturbing incident, a man hit by a bus in Karnataka was dragged for 70kms from one station to another before someone noticed his body stuck in the undercarriage. There have been cases of victims dragged for meters, but this was unusual, KSRTC officials said. The driver, with 10 years of experience and accident-free records, has been arrested for causing death by negligence.
70km from Bengaluru, the driver thought he hit a stone
45-year-old Mohinuddin, attached to the Shantinagar depot, was driving a sleeper bus from Coonoor (TN) to Bengaluru via the Mysuru-Mandya-Channapatna route. "I heard a thud when the bus reached Channapatna, 70km from Bengaluru, and I thought the bus had hit a stone," Mohinuddin said. He didn't spot anything in the rear-view mirror, so continued driving.
Body finally discovered the next morning
In Bengaluru, the bus first went to the Mysuru Road Satellite station, then to Majestic, Shantinagar and finally the depot. After parking it, Mohinuddin dozed off. The body was noticed only the next morning, when the vehicle was being taken for a wash.
Shocked drivers say the body should have fallen off
There's still no information on the victim's identity, except he's s aged 30-40. The body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital. "We arrested Mohinuddin under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence)," a cop said. Other drivers called the incident shocking, saying there are dozens of speed-breakers on that route and the body should have fallen off.
