Man ends life as police demands bribe to trace daughter
A man, who was allegedly upset after a police official demanded Rs. one lakh from him to find his missing daughter, hanged himself to death in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, police said on Monday. His family members alleged that he was upset as Ramnagar Police outpost in-charge, Ram Ratan Singh demanded money from him for finding his 22-year-old daughter who was abducted recently.
Sub-inspector removed from the post; charges are being probed: SSP
"The victim, Shishupal (45), died by suicide in Mau Chandpur village in Bareilly," they said. SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said, "The sub-inspector has been removed from the outpost, and charges of demanding money are being probed." An FIR was registered at the Aonla Police Station on April 9. Shishupal had alleged that Banti, Mukesh, and Dinesh abducted his daughter on a bike.
Singh tore Shishupal's suicide note
Meanwhile, Singh reached the spot after hearing about Shishupal's death. He found the suicide note and tore it and put it inside his pocket. Later, villagers caught hold of the policeman and handed him over to the police.
Two Jaipur civic officials were held for taking bribe
In a separate incident involving demanding a bribe, two employees of the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation were nabbed by the city police for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs. 90,000. According to the anti-corruption bureau, Chhotu Ram, the accused fire officer, had demanded Rs. 90,000 bribe in lieu of issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) to an establishment.
