Jet Airways passenger detained for tweeting hijack to PM Modi
A Jet Airways passenger was detained at Jaipur airport after he tweeted to PM Modi that his flight may be hijacked. Nitin Varma was travelling on a Mumbai-Delhi flight which was delayed for 3 hours in Mumbai and then diverted to Jaipur due to traffic-congestion at Delhi. Varma's tweet set the PMO and security agencies into action, who determined it to be a false-alarm.
What was Varma's tweet?
@narendramodi sir we have been in jet airways flight for past 3 hrs , looks like hijacked, pl help 9W355.
What do authorities have to say?
Police stated that Varma was agitated by the delay and hence wrote the tweet. MP Bansal, officiating airport director, Jaipur said "Since he created panic, a case would be registered against him." DCP (East) Jaipur police, Kunwar Rastradeep, said a case would be registered under Section 503 and 506 of the CrPC for criminal intimidation.
