Girl's Facebook-post of man masturbating in bus gets him arrested
A girl's post forced Kolkata Police to take action against a repeat offender, who masturbated at her in a crowded bus. On Saturday, Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Supratim Sarkar said the accused, a hawker and resident of Baidyabati, has been arrested. Kolkata Police's move comes after the victim's post, having graphic details of the incident, got over thousands of shares on Facebook.
Man flashes to girl and her friend, no one helps
Detailing the incident on Facebook, the girl wrote that she and her friend were travelling from Hedua, on a bus when they noticed the man behaving indecently. She raised an alarm but no one on the bus did anything. "When we alerted the conductor he said 'What can do I do?'. Not a single person came to our support," the girl wrote.
The accused is a repeat offender
"About 15 days ago, he (the accused Asit Roy) had done the same thing. I was afraid to react then. I also did not have evidence. This time though, I have evidence," the girl, said to be in her twenties, wrote.
Kolkata Police tracks Roy hours after incident
After the post went viral, Kolkata Police took cognizance of the matter and traced the bus. Taking leads from the conductor, they nabbed Roy. "He has been caught and will be punished most definitely," the Kolkata Police wrote on their Facebook page. Further, they described Roy as 'man with a diseased mind'. Many thanked the police for their swift action.
