MakeMyTrip trolled for co-founder's tweet on beef
MakeMyTrip has come under attack after a co-founder protested the Centre's laws on cattle slaughter. Keyur Joshi's now-deleted tweet read: "If Hinduism takes away right to choice of food, I rather not be a Hindu. @narendramodi @BJP4India can't decide what people eat." Adding he supports Modi and is a vegetarian, he said he would "eat beef only in India to support freedom of food".
Hateful comments on Twitter after comment
Twitterati launched scathing attacks, threatening uninstallation or down-rating of the app. "If he has so hatred about divine Hinduism, we hate @makemytrip of which he is a part of.!" tweeted @shishir_heg. "Srry bt I hve 2 ask u. Will u allow me 2 eat ur mother by chopping her in pieces 2 save my right 2 eat?" asked @SirKhujliwal. #BoycottMakeMyTrip soon started trending.
Joshi isn't even associated with us, says MakeMyTrip
Ironically, MakeMyTrip said Joshi is not even a current employee, and that his tweets "do not reflect the views of MMT". However, Joshi's LinkedIn profile says he is a 'strategic advisor' to MMT. He has since deleted his Twitter account. A source told News18 that MMT's sales hadn't been affected despite threats. The app's rating on the Google Play Store also remained at 4.2.
Throwback to Snapdeal/Snapchat episodes
This isn't the first time a firm was attacked due to views by its associates. When Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel reportedly called India a "poor country" where he wasn't interested in expanding business, social media users attacked the app and even his partner. In November 2015, Snapdeal faced backlash after brand ambassador Aamir Khan commented on intolerance in India.
