Mahindra isn't alone in his anger
Mahindra is one among countless Indians demanding reforms and justice for the Unnao, Kathua and Surat rape victims. On Sunday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal also joined the protests. Maliwal is holding an indefinite hunger strike. She is demanding death penalty for raping minors and more fast-track courts to complete trials within six months.
Mahindra's wish to execute rapists finds massive support on Twitter
Within a day, Mahindra's tweet has been retweeted 3,530 times and liked by 7,726 users. One user replied, "You'll have to get in line Anand." Another said, "Your entire army of 6.6 million followers will be ready to be a part of this great deed". A third said, "Would be more than happy to give you a hand if ever you get a chance."
What had happened in Surat?
Surat Police found the body of a nine-year-old on April 6 near a cricket field in Bhestan. It had over 80 injuries, including some on private parts, allegedly caused by a wooden weapon. According to the post-mortem report, the girl was raped for at least eight days before being strangulated to death. Police are yet to identify her or her parents.
