Maharashtra: Mineral water and liquor to get costlier
The Maharashtra state government has recently decided to increase the price of bulk water tariff for all industries like bottled water companies and liquor manufacturers that use water as a raw material for their products. The tariff, that will be implemented from February 1 for these industries, has been increased by 25 times compared to others by the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA).
Price hike will reflect on bottled water, liquor price
The hike that comes into effect from next month will mainly affect the price of bottled mineral water, liquor, beer and other soft drinks. MWRRA chairman KP Bakshi said, "We set a tariff for these industries to Rs 120 per 1,000 litres compared to Rs 4.80 (earlier Rs 3.20) for other industries that use water as a cooling agent."
Hike will bring a revenue of Rs. 400-500 crore: Officials
According to the MWRRA officials, this hike on water tariff was made for the first time after 2010-2011 and is expected to bring a revenue of at least 400-500 crores. "We have done extensive public consultation and have come up with the new tariff. The water tariffs are hiked for all the types of consumers — household, agriculture and industries," said MWRRA Chairman Bakshi.
