Speaking at a function to mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "It wasn't the Mughal emperor Akbar, but Maharana Pratap who was great for he displayed exemplary courage in the face of Mughal army."
"It's not important who won Battle of Haldighati, what's important is who stood-up to the most powerful army of those times," he added.

Akbar had defeated Maharana Pratap in Haldighati battle in 1576
"The battle continued for years in Aravalli hills, and finally after winning back all his forts, it was proved that Maharana Pratap was great," he said.
It is a popular view of historians that the forces of Akbar had defeated Pratap in Haldighati battle in 1576.
"Rajput king was relevant even today," Adityanath said, while releasing a special edition of RSS magazine 'Avadh Prahri'.
