MP: Rape accused sentenced to life-imprisonment after 3-day-trial
A 24-year-old rape accused was given life imprisonment till death for raping a six-year-old girl by a court in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, reports HT. The accused identified as Motilal Ahirwar was given the sentence after a three-day trial making it one of the fastest trials in the state. Ahirwar was pronounced guilty on the basis of statements of 17 witnesses and a senior medical officer.
Ahirwar raped victim in May, left her in sub-conscious state
The incident happened on May 29 when the victim was attending the wedding of a relative. Ahirwar lured her by showing her flowers. He then took her to a government school to rape her. Later, her parents found her lying sub-conscious in the school. A test by doctors confirmed the victim was raped. The police arrested Ahirwar within 24 hours of the complaint.
Accused was convicted under relevant sections of IPC, POCSO
Ahirwar was convicted under IPC Sections 376 (AB) (punishment for raping a woman under 12 years) and 366 (abduction) and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of POCSO Act. This was one of the fastest trials of Madhya Pradesh, said district prosecution officer Puspendra Garg.
