Former Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari murdered in Lucknow
Former Hindu Mahasabha leader and founder of the Hindu Samaj Party Kamlesh Tiwari was murdered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday afternoon. Earlier reports suggested that Tiwari was shot at and was rushed to a hospital in a critical state. However, reports now suggest that doctors found Tiwari's throat had been slit with a sharp object. Tiwari attacked at office; attackers fled immediately
According to Jagran, two unidentified assailants walked into Tiwari's office in Lucknow's Khurshid Bagh area in disguise. The police said one of the assailants was wearing saffron clothes. Reportedly, the assailants sat down for tea in his office and pulled out a pistol hidden inside a box of sweets. The assailants shot at Tiwari and fled the scene. His throat was also slit.
Tiwari died during treatment; police hunt for attackers
Further, according to reports, Tiwari was rushed to King George's Medical University and died during treatment. The police believe that the attack was carried out by an acquaintance of Tiwari and have recovered a revolver from the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, the police have launched a preliminary investigation to nab the killers, said Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani.
Tiwari was arrested in 2015 over remarks against Prophet Muhammad
In 2015, Tiwari had made headlines after his controversial statements against Prophet Muhammad. His remarks sparked a huge uproar in the Muslim community. He was arrested and released a year later after the Allahabad High Court had quashed the charges against him under National Security Act. Reportedly, Tiwari was also a litigant in the Ayodhya land dispute case.
Tiwari fourth right-wing leader to be killed in October
Tiwari's killing is the fourth murder of a right-wing leader in the past month, IANS reported. On October 13, BJP corporator Dhara Singh (47) was killed amid indiscriminate fire by unidentified assailants in Deoband. BJP leader Kabir Tiwari was also gunned down in Basti. BJP leader Chaudhary Yashpal Singh was shot dead in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, on October 8.
