India's pride: 13-year-old Lucknow girl tops international English test
A 13-year-old Class 8 student of Lucknow has brought laurels to the entire country by topping an international test of English. Anahita Singh of City Montessori School secured a whopping 100 percentile in English in the International Benchmark Test (IBT), which assesses students in several subjects. Anahita, who wants to join the Foreign Service, said the result will "surely aid me in my goal."
What is the IBT?
The IBT, organized by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), is held in several countries including India once a year. It offers students in grades 3 to 10 a chance to test themselves in English, Mathematics, Science and Arabic Language. The 2017 exam was held in November. Over 50,000 students appeared in India, HT reports. Results were announced earlier this week.
'I kept learning with the intention of learning, not performing'
"Anahita has topped in all five skills of English language that includes comprehension, grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary," informed Principal Manjit Batra. The teenager called it a "lovely surprise," which "helped me realize my love for English." About preparations, she said, "I simply kept learning, with the intention of learning." Apart from recognition from IBT, Anahita also got Rs. 50,000 cash-prize from her school.
