TN: Lok Adalats settle over 70,000 cases on single day
National Lok Adalats held in Tamil Nadu disposed of over 40,000 pending and more than 30,000 pre-litigation cases on Saturday. Organized by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLA), the Lok Adalats settled disputes for a sum of Rs. 179.35 crore. The serving and retired judges of the Madras High Court settled the cases in Chennai and Madurai. Here's more.
A total of 447 benches were constituted in the state
The Lok Adalats were conducted following instructions from the second senior-most Supreme Court judge, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is also the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). To dispose of the cases, a total of 447 benches were constituted, ten in the Madras High Court, six in Madurai and over 400 in the district and taluk-level courts.
