Chhattisgarh: Lockdown in Durg from April 6 to 14
The administration in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Friday announced a complete lockdown from April 6 to 14, in light of the spike in rising COVID-19 cases in the region, an official said. District Collector Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said in view of COVID-19 cases, it has become necessary to break the chain of transmission by imposing a lockdown and public support is required for it.
Statement unclear about activities allowed and restricted during lockdown
The lockdown will be imposed from April 6 to April 14, the statement issued by the district administration said. The statement, however, did not mention which activities will be allowed and restricted during this period.
Collector urged citizens aged above 45 years to get vaccinated
Appealing to people to stay indoors, the collector urged citizens to get tested if they come in contact with COVID-19 infected persons. He also urged people above the age of 45 to get vaccinated at nearby vaccination centers. As of Thursday, the COVID-19 tally in the Durg district stood at 40,068, including 754 casualties.
District has recorded 10,295 cases in the last two weeks
According to official figures, the district has recorded 10,295 cases in the last two weeks and has 9,883 active cases. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday had directed district collectors to decide on imposing lockdowns in their respective regions as per the local situation.

Chhattisgarh reported 4,563 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Hindustan Times reported. The state also recorded thirty-nine COVID-19 related deaths on the same day, taking the toll to 4,170. Raipur and Durg districts topped the list with 1,291 and 1,199 fresh cases respectively on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 1.22 lakh residents above the age of 60 were vaccinated on Wednesday.
Chhattisgarh had already increased penalty for maskless people
On March 26, the Chhattisgarh government increased the amount of penalty for maskless people from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500 for strict implementation of COVID-19 guidelines. The state health and family welfare department issued an order to this effect under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 to contain the spread of the infection, a release by the public relations department said.
