The shrine holds a special place among the Kashmiri Pandit community. The color of the water of the springs of the shrine area is believed to foretell how the coming year would be. It has been reported that whenever the water has turned reddish, bad times have fallen on Kashmir.

Shah offered prayers at the temple of Mata Ragnya Devi and performed puja. Taking to Twitter, Shah said he had the honor of visiting the major center of faith of the Kashmiri Pandit community which inspires the nation. "This holy place has divine power that can be felt only by visiting it," Shah wrote in Kashmiri language using Devanagari script.

On Sunday, Shah inaugurated a new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu. He later addressed a rally at the Bhagwati Nagar ground where he said that earlier the Union Territory and Ladakh faced discrimination but now the administration was ensuring equitable development in these regions.

A BJP-led delegation of three displaced Kashmiri Pandit organizations called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday and demanded the construction of two-bedroom quarters for the migrant employees from the community recruited under the prime minister's special recruitment program in the Kashmir valley, besides security and insurance coverage for them.

Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar today for a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. He was received by J&K Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh at the airport. Security arrangements have been heightened following a spate of targeted civilian killings.

In wake of the recent killings of minorities, the J&K administration has decided to monitor areas where they live with drones. The union territory has witnessed horrific targeted killings in recent days. The local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have jointly placed drone surveillance for these areas. The same would also be enforced in Lal Chowk, the city center.

Shah will inaugurate the first direct international flight between Srinagar and Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates. International flights will begin in Srinagar from today and the decision follows a meeting between top officials in the union territory's administration.
