NR Narayana Murthy is one of the famous IIT-Kanpur alumni
Renowned IT industrialist NR Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, is one of the most famous and successful alumni of IIT-Kanpur. He had pursued MTech from IIT-Kanpur after completing BTech in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Engineering in Mysuru. Murthy, who co-founded Infosys in 1981 with six others, has also been honored with Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri awards.
Former RBI Governor, Duvvuri Subbarao, is a noted IIT-Kanpur alumnus
Noted Indian economist Duvvuri Subbarao, retired IAS officer and the former Governor of Reserve Bank of India, is also a famous alumnus of IIT-Kanpur. After pursuing a bachelor's degree with honors in physics, he completed a master's degree in physics from IIT-Kanpur. He is a 1972-batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He served as the 22nd Governor of RBI from 2008-13.
Satyendra Dubey, an IES officer who died fighting corruption
IIT-Kanpur alumnus Satyendra Dubey was an IES (Indian Engineering Services) officer known for his honesty and fight against corruption. Dubey, who was the Project Director in NHAI, was assassinated in 2003 for exposing high-level corruption in the central government's Golden Quadrilateral Highway project. IIT-Kanpur also presents the Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award to IIT alumni who display highest professional integrity in upholding human values.
TRAI Chairman, Ram Sewak Sharma, also an IIT-Kanpur alumnus
Indian bureaucrat Ram Sewak Sharma, who is the current Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), is also an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur. He is a 1978-batch IAS officer who pursued his post graduation from IIT-Kanpur in 1976. Before being appointed the TRAI chief in 2015, Sharma also served as the Director General of the UIDAI, the Aadhaar-issuing authority, between 2009 and 2013.
Ixigo founders, Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, are IIT-Kanpur alumni
Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, the founders of the country's leading travel and hotel booking e-commerce platform ixigo, are also the alumni of IIT-Kanpur. While CEO Bajpai pursued BTech in electrical engineering (1997-2001), CTO Kumar pursued BTech in computer science & engineering (1997-2011) from the prestigious institute. Bajpai and Kumar founded ixigo, which is headquartered in Gurugram, in the year 2007.
