To help students overcome such financial struggles, many Indian and international organizations, universities, governments offer scholarships to ensure that lack of funds don't get in the way of quality education. The USIEF's Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships for postgraduate programs
The Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship, offered by United States-India Educational Foundation, is a scholarship for Indians wishing to pursue postgraduate courses in any US institution. Students with a four-year bachelor degree and three-year work experience in relevant areas are eligible. Tuition fee, economy airfare, textbooks, and living stipend are covered. Applications start in June every year for the next year (Jun'18 for 2019-20 academic year).
The Tata Scholarship for undergraduate courses at Cornell University
Tata Education and Development Trust's Tata Scholarship for undergraduate programs at the US's Cornell University supports 20 Indian candidates studying at the prestigious university at once. Indian citizens who have secured Cornell admission and need financial-aid are eligible. Tuition fee (upto eight semesters), food/medical/travel expenses, and living expenses are covered. Applications usually open during October/November every year at around the time of college applications.
Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship for students from Commonwealth countries
Commonwealth Scholarships Commission offers "Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship" for students from Commonwealth nations, including India, for postgraduate programs in the UK. Those with education in English medium and 60% (minimum) in Social Sciences/Humanities or 65% in Engineering/Technology/Science/Agriculture are eligible. HRD Ministry conducts preliminary interviews and shortlists applicants. It covers tuition fee, economy return airfare, living expenses. Applications open every August for next academic year.
Undergraduate, postgraduate scholarship for study in China
Chinese Government offers scholarships for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in China's universities under India-China Cultural Exchange Program. Students with at least 60% marks and adequate knowledge about China's geography, culture, heritage are eligible. Tuition fee and travel/living expenses are covered based on the candidate's need while Indian Government provides airfare expenses. Applications open in March for programs in the same year.
The UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award
Canada's University of British Columbia offers UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award for international students accepted for its undergraduate courses. Students need to be nominated by their current school and meet all English language requirements. Applications need to be completed by November every year for next year's programs. The award amount, which can cover tuition fee and living expenses, depends on students' need.
Scholarship for pursuing MBA at one of world's best B-School
The Indian Trust Fellowship is a scholarship that is offered to students who pursue full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in Chicago. Those living/working in India at the time of applying to Booth school are eligible. However, only two are selected. The scholarship awards $10,000 to the selected candidates to cover the tuition fee.
The Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowships for Indian Students
Reliance Industries and Stanford Graduate School of Business jointly offer Stanford Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowships for Indian Students to meritorious candidates deserving an opportunity to study at the top B-School. The award amount, approximately $150,000, covers tuition fee and other associated fees for the MBA. However, awardees are expected to return to India and work for an organization within two years after the two-year MBA.
The Indian Government's Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship
The Union HRD Ministry awards the Indian Government-funded Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship, to one Indian candidate, a Junior Research Fellow placed at St. Antony College, Oxford University London. The £29,944.85 scholarship is awarded for one year; it may be extended based on candidate's performance. Candidates aged between 30-40 years with 60% (minimum) in post-graduation and PhD in a relevant subject are eligible.
