UP: School books to include chapter on Yogi Adityanath's Guru
In government-run schools of Uttar Pradesh, the syllabus in schools will include chapters on Baba Gorakhnath (Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Guru), freedom fighters Bandhu Singh and Rani Avanti Bai, and warrior brothers Alha-Udal of the 12th century. These names were omitted from school syllabus till now. Notably, the changes were incorporated on Yogi Adityanath's direction to Basic Shiksha Department.
Chapter on Baba Gorakhnath included in Class 6 textbooks
The life story of Baba Gorakhnath has been included in Standard 6 books. Adityanath is the head priest of Baba Gorakhnath Mutt, a prime devotion center of Hindus in Eastern UP. He was given the position in September 2014, after the death of his 'spiritual father' Mahant Advaiynath. The CM said these eminent personalities were neglected in the previous regimes.
Bundelkhand's warrior brothers have been included in books too
The changes have been made in the books from Classes 1 to 8. A chapter on Bandhu Singh, who was hanged at Gorakhpur's Alinagar crossing on August 12, 1857, for fighting against the British, has been included. Bundelkhand's warrior brothers Alha-Udal also got inclusion in the books. Queen of Madhya Pradesh Rani Avanti Bai who stood up to the British Raj was included too.
Changes done to make students better citizens
Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Bhupendra Narayan Singh said these chapters have been included to teach kids about great personalities. "It will help the students become good citizens by learning about their teachings and inspiring life stories," he said. Over 8 lakh books are to be distributed. These books also have a QR code which can be scanned on mobile devices.
