Student allegedly expelled from school after rape complaint against armyman
A teenager in Maharashtra's Latur has alleged she was expelled from her school after she filed a rape complaint against an armyman. Apparently, the school wanted to "maintain its dignity". However, the principal has denied the accusations. He maintains it was the girl's family who had asked him for a school leaving certificate. The family alleges police is also making things difficult for them.
It took them months to get a complaint registered
A jawan allegedly raped the 15-year-old on the pretext of marriage when he visited her village in April. When they approached cops, they demanded hefty bribes to register a complaint. "It was only when we approached the SP that a complaint was registered on August 29," said her uncle. But then the school expelled her after cops contacted them to probe the rape complaint.
Police mention possibility of family dispute behind rape complaint
According to her uncle, the principal told her brother the school didn't want "to keep a student because of whom (it) will be defamed". But the principal says it was the brother who sought a school-leaving certificate. An officer said "she wasn't attending classes regularly". "It is pertinent to note that there have been complaints against each other due to family disputes," he added.
Case lodged under IPC Section 376
A case has now been lodged against the accused under IPC Section 376 (rape). Meanwhile, police is yet to arrest the accused. "Some formalities have to be completed before any arrest of an army person. Those processes are on," said an officer.
