Lalu gets five-day parole to attend son Tej Pratap's wedding
Former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, who's serving time in the fodder scam, has been granted parole for five days to attend his elder son Tej Pratap's wedding this week. Tej Pratap, former health minister and currently an RJD MLA, will marry Aishwarya Rai, senior party leader Chandrika Rai's daughter, on May 12 in Patna. Lalu couldn't attend the engagement ceremony on April 18.
About the would-be bride and groom
25-year-old Aishwarya, granddaughter of former CM Daroga Rai, went to Patna's Notre Dame school before moving to Delhi University, and then did MBA from Amity University. On the other hand, 29-year-old Tej Pratap entered politics after flunking in Class 12. Elected from Mahua Assembly in 2015, he was appointed health minister in Nitish Kumar's cabinet. Father-in-law Chandrika Rai, six-time MLA, was the transport minister then.
Not the first matrimonial-political alliance in Yadav family
The engagement ceremony was an intimate but dazzling affair with family members and relatives on both sides in attendance. However, this isn't the first matrimonial-political alliance in the Yadav family. Lalu's youngest daughter Raj Laxmi is married to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand-nephew.
Lalu has been in prison since last December
Tej Pratap's father Lalu, RJD chief, has been in Ranchi's Birsa Munda jail since December after conviction in the Deoghar fodder scam case. He has till now been convicted and sentenced in three cases. Recently, he was taken to AIIMS Delhi after falling sick. After he got better, he was transferred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science in Ranchi.
Lalu applied for parole after emotional message from Tej Pratap
In the absence of Lalu, who couldn't attend the engagement ceremony, wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi oversaw all the arrangements at the event. Later, Tej Pratap posted an emotional message on Twitter, simply writing, "Miss you Papa." Yesterday, Lalu sent an application for parole to the Jharkhand Jail IG. He is now likely to be in Patna between May 10 and 14.
