Lalu Prasad's health deteriorates, he can neither sit nor stand
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's health has deteriorated over the past few days, rendering the 70-year-old incapable of sitting or standing. The RJD chief, who is serving a jail term over his involvement in the fodder scam, is currently admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi under police custody for treatment of diabetes and various illnesses. RJD leader: Lalu should be shifted to a better hospital
RJD MLA Rekha Devi, who met Lalu Prasad on Saturday, said that the former Bihar chief minister could neither sit nor stand. She demanded that he be shifted to a hospital with better medical facilities. However, Dr. Umesh Prasad, the physician in charge of Lalu Prasad's treatment, said that he could neither confirm nor deny Rekha Devi's statement.
Lalu Prasad has an infected wound behind his right knee
Dr. Prasad revealed that Lalu Prasad had suffered a wound behind his right knee, and that infection resultant of the wound had led to a deterioration of his health. A recent pathological test has also indicated a high level of infection, resulting in an increase in Lalu Prasad's blood sugar levels. Yet, the situation did not warrant a shifting of hospitals, Dr. Prasad said.
Despite his ill-health, Lalu Prasad is still entertaining political visits
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) general secretary Prakash Tripathi met Lalu Prasad, carrying NCP leader Sharad Pawar's message expressing willingness to join the RJD-led Grand Alliance in Bihar. Tripathi, however, did not reveal how Lalu Prasad reacted to the message. Last Saturday, Lalu Prasad was also visited by his second eldest son, Tejashwi Yadav.
