Kolkata rape-murder case: Polygraph tests on Sanjoy Roy, others begin
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started polygraph tests on Sanjoy Roy and six other individuals in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The tests began on Saturday, following the approval from a special court in Kolkata on Friday. Among those undergoing this procedure is Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college.
Ghosh, others arrive for polygraph tests
Ghosh arrived at the CBI Special Crime Branch at Central Government Offices complex (CGO) complex, Salt Lake in Kolkata. The polygraph test on Roy will be conducted in the prison where he is lodged. The remaining four doctors who were on duty during the night of the incident and a civil volunteer will undergo their tests at the agency's office.
CFSL team conducts polygraph tests
The polygraph tests are being conducted by a team of specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi, who have flown to Kolkata for this purpose. The CBI alleged that there was an attempt to cover up the rape and murder by local police, as the crime scene was altered by the time the federal agency took over the probe. The Supreme Court has granted the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on this investigation.
'I'm being framed': Kolkata rape-murder accused
Roy, who was arrested a day after the horrific crime, earlier claimed he was innocent and that he was being framed. "I haven't committed any crime. I'm being framed. Maybe this test will prove that," Roy was quoted as saying by The Times of India. CCTV footage showed him entering the building around the approximate time of the crime, and his Bluetooth headphones were found near the crime scene.
