Flipkart customer complains about order, gets SMS to join BJP
In a bizarre turn of events, a Kolkata man got a text thanking him for joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after he dialled Flipkart.com to complain of a faulty order. The man had ordered two headphones to watch ongoing FIFA World Cup. Instead, he got an oil bottle and when he flagged the goof-up, things got pretty weird. Here's what happened.
Customer dials to complain about order, gets welcomed to BJP
Furious over the order, the man called 1800-266-1001, the number printed on the packet, to complain. The call was disconnected and before he redialled, he got a message welcoming him to BJP. The message gave him a premium membership number and asked to share more details to complete the process. He shared the number with friends and everyone received the same text.
After incident, BJP says it knows nothing of the number
While the man realized it was BJP's number, the saffron party said they have no connection with the e-retailer Flipkart. "The BJP number is on the website, on Facebook. Anyone can share it. You can also share it. That's not our responsibility," Dilip Joshi, West Bengal BJP chief, said. Meanwhile, Flipkart said they stopped using the aforementioned number three years ago.
Further, Flipkart sends customer one headphone, refunds money for another
Addressing the customer's complaint, Flipkart delivered him one headphone he wanted and said it would refund the amount of another. About the number, Flipkart said, "The phone company must have just re-allotted the number, as is done when a number has been surrendered and there is no activity for six months." We hope the fan is enjoying the World Cup, without distractions.
