#KolkataBlast: Father of deceased says his son could've been saved
A bomb blast in Kolkata's Nagerbazaar area on Tuesday left a six-year-old dead and his distressed father said his child could have been saved. Janmejoy Ghosh went from one hospital to another with his son Bibhas and wife Sita, for three hours, reports IE. At 12:30 PM, when he was finally admitted to SSKM Hospital, he died. The bomb ticked off at 9 AM.
Since Bibhas had leave on Tuesday, he accompanied his mother
Janmejoy and his family, natives of 24 Parganas, stayed in Kolkata in a rented house in Arjunpur. He worked at a sweet shop in Motijheel area and his wife was employed as a domestic help. Bibhas studied at KK Hindi Academy School, and since he had a leave on Gandhi Jayanti, he accompanied his mother. The mother-son duo was close to the building where the bomb exploded.
Janmejoy took his child from one hospital to another
After the blast, few locals helped Janmejoy in taking his kin to a private hospital, which was 14 kms away. There, the hospital informed him it didn't have childcare or burn unit. Janmejoy then rushed to SSKM Hospital, another 10 kms away. "Doctors first asked us to stand in the queue and get a ticket. Finally, my wife and son were admitted," he said.
Since he lacked money, he couldn't go to better hospital
Janmejoy revealed his son died soon and his wife is still critical. He said, "We are poor so we could not take them to big private hospitals. My boy got treated late." Prof Raghunath Misra, Superintendent, SSKM, admitted the patients reached the hospital late. He said when he came to know victims of blast arrived at the hospital, he intervened to avoid further delay.
It's a fact they reached late: Prof Misra
"I called the emergency wing and told them not to bother about tickets or official work, and to admit them. It's a fact that they reached here late. I met the mother in the ward. I intervened personally so that time would not be wasted," Prof Misra said.
"Bibhas was the youngest and most loved one in family"
Bibhas's aunt said they were supposed to celebrate his birthday on October 5. She said he was the youngest and most loved member of the family. "This morning he was walking holding his mother's hand and the blast took place. We cannot accept that he is no more," his aunt Purnima Roy said. Bibhas has an elder brother who studies in Class 10.
Out of nine undergoing treatment, three are critical
Nine patients are admitted to RG Kar Medical College Hospital, and out of them, three are critical. A fruit vendor is undergoing treatment. The blast took place right outside his shop. His relative said the lower part of his body is severely damaged and they don't know what will happen to him. "God knows how we will survive this ordeal," he added.
Meanwhile, case registered against unknown persons
An official of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate said a suo motu case has been registered against unknown persons. Samples have been collected from the spot and forensic tests are being conducted to ascertain what type of material was used in the blast. The cops didn't comment on TMC's allegations that the blast was planned by BJP, and insisted investigation is at an initial stage.
