Kolkata doctor rape-murder: Accused Roy's polygraph test raises questions
Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has undergone a polygraph test. During the examination, he said the victim was already deceased when he arrived at the seminar hall. This claim contradicts earlier admissions made by Roy to Kolkata police, where he confessed to both rape and murder.
Roy's polygraph test results indicate deception
The Times of India reported that Roy's polygraph test flagged several false and unconvincing responses. He appeared nervous and anxious during the procedure, offering multiple alibis when confronted with evidence by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Despite these inconsistencies, Roy has maintained his innocence in court last week, saying he agreed to the lie-detector test to prove his innocence.
Roy's claims of innocence questioned by authorities
Notably, both the CBI and police have identified significant discrepancies in his statements. An officer told Hindustan Times that Roy has been attempting to mislead investigators and could not provide any explanation for his facial injuries or presence in the building at the time of the crime. The victim was discovered dead inside a seminar hall with evidence of sexual assault and 25 injuries on her body, including private parts.
Roy's psychoanalytic profile raises concerns
Roy's psychoanalytic profile, as revealed by the CBI, describes him as a "pervert and severely addicted to pornography" with animal-like instincts. According to his profile, Roy showed no remorse for his actions. Additionally, the CBI also informed the Supreme Court last week about attempts to cover up the crime, alleging that local police tampered with the crime scene before they took over.
CBI investigates financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College
Separately, the CBI has initiated an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College. This new line of inquiry was transferred from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the West Bengal government, following instructions from the Calcutta High Court. The court has directed the CBI to submit a progress report on this investigation within three weeks.
