CBI to consult AIIMS experts in Kolkata doctor's rape-murder case
The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to collaborate with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on DNA and forensic reports. This will help the CBI determine whether more than one person was involved in the horrifying rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
AIIMS review crucial in confirming sole perpetrator
The CBI is currently operating on the premise that Roy was the sole perpetrator of this heinous crime. However, the involvement of others cannot be conclusively ruled out until AIIMS experts have reviewed these reports. The victim's family had previously suggested that more than one person might have been involved in the crime.
Roy's arrest and initial confession
The victim was assaulted and killed inside the seminar hall of the hospital during her 36-hour-long shift. Her body, bearing severe injuries, was discovered on August 9. Roy, a civic volunteer seen entering the seminar hall at 4:03am on August 9 in CCTV footage, was arrested by police on August 10. He initially confessed to the crime but later proclaimed his innocence in court, alleging he was being framed.
Roy's inconsistent statements and psychoanalytic profile
However, both the CBI and police noted significant inconsistencies in his statements. An officer stated that Roy had been attempting to mislead investigators and could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his facial injuries or presence in the building at the time of the crime. A psychoanalytic profile of Roy revealed him as a pervert with an addiction to pornography, who showed no remorse for his actions.
