Kolkata doctor rape-murder: Who's ASI Anup Dutta, under CBI scanner
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has requested a Kolkata court's approval to conduct a polygraph test on Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anup Dutta of the Kolkata Police. The central agency is investigating whether Dutta assisted the prime suspect, Sanjay Roy, in concealing the rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
Dutta's alleged involvement in the case
Dutta has been under CBI scrutiny after being seen with the hospital's former principal, Sandip Ghosh, in social media photos. Dutta is accused of aiding Roy gain access to police quarters and a motorcycle—privileges not typically extended to a police civic volunteer like Roy. Dutta is also part of the Kolkata Police Welfare Committee, where Roy was assigned duties related to visiting hospitalized police personnel and their relatives.
CBI completes polygraph tests on Ghosh
The CBI previously conducted the lie-detector test on seven people, including Ghosh. He was also subjected to Layered Voice Analysis test. This technology detects stress, cognitive processes, and emotional cues in different voice properties. However, these tests are not admissible as evidence during trial but can only be used to gather further leads in a case.
