#KolkataDoubleMurder: 65-year old woman raped, murdered in front of husband
Earlier this year, an elderly couple was found brutally murdered at their home in Kolkata. Now, a post-mortem report has revealed shocking details of the crime. Dilip Mukherjee (75) and Sapna Mukherjee (65) were killed at their Netaji Nagar residence on July 30. A news report on Saturday, however, stated that Sapna was raped before the murder in front of her bed-ridden husband.
Woman sexually assaulted with paint roller
According to News18, the couple was murdered by a laborer, Hamroz Alam, who was hired to paint their two-story house. Reportedly, Alam sexually assaulted Sapna with a paint roller. Her body was found with a rope tied around her neck and a pipe inserted in her throat, PTI reported. Alam also smothered Dilip to death and robbed the couple of Rs. 50,000-70,000.
Arrested the prime accused; investigation underway: Joint CP
Speaking to News18, Joint Commissioner of Police Murlidhar Sharma said, "Sapna was sexually assaulted before being murdered." The Joint CP added, "We have arrested the prime accused and the investigation is underway." Alam is currently in police custody and has confessed to the crime. Sharma had told PTI in July that the house was "totally ransacked."
Couple was childless, had no one to look after them
A woman, who used to work as a maid for the childless couple, had told PTI, "Both of them were very well-behaved and had nobody to look after them." While Sapna's body was found near the door at the entrance of the first floor, Dilip was found dead in his bed. Earlier, the police suspected the involvement of two persons, but later nabbed Alam.
