Kolkata: Bomb-blast in Dum Dum Area kills child, injures 10
A high-intensity bomb blast in Dum Dum's Nagerbazaar area of Kolkata on Tuesday killed one child and injured ten others, reports said. The bomb ticked off near a multi-storey building in the congested area around 9 AM. The injured were sent to Kar Medical College and Hospital, where one succumbed to injuries. A forensic and CID team was rushed at the spot.
Police found nails near the blast, couldn't ascertain motive
The state's police department said they found some nails but couldn't ascertain the cause behind the blast. "There is no smell of gunpowder," an official said. "What kind of blast is it and the materials used are being investigated," said Commissioner of Police at Barrackpore Police Rajesh Kumar Singh. Earlier it was reported it was a gas cylinder blast.
TMC leader claims he was target of attack
The office of South Dum Dum Municipality Chairman, Panchu Roy was also in the same building and he claimed he was the target of the attack. "It was a pre-planned blast... They had planned to kill me and other TMC workers, as it would create panic and help them gain a foothold in the area," he told PTI but didn't name any party.

Earlier, bomb blasts at TMC office ensued war of words
Notably, a bomb ticked off on September 10 destroying a TMC office in Birbhum district of West Bengal. Soon after the incident, a blame game ensued between the ruling TMC and opposing BJP, with each pointing fingers at the other for the violence. Before that, a blast in the office of TMC in West Midnapore district killed one. The incident took place on August 23.
