Kohli dedicates third-Test win to Kerala flood victims, thanks Anushka
Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli dedicated the win against England in the third Test to Kerala flood victims. On Wednesday, after defeating England by 203 runs, Kohli said, "Dedicate this victory to the flood victims in Kerala. This is our bit we can do from the Indian cricket team." He also thanked his wife Anushka, who was present at Nottingham, for motivating him.
Earlier, Kohli hoped normalcy returned to Kerala soon
On August 17, Kohli had tweeted on Kerala-floods'>Kerala floods and advised people to stay indoors. "Also, thanking the Indian army and NDRF for their incredible support in this critical condition. Stay strong and stay safe," he had written. Over 13 days of heavy downpour and landslides brought Kerala to a standstill, in which 400 people have died, and lakhs are staying in relief camps.
After match, Kohli also thanks Anushka for support
"I'd like to dedicate this to my wife who is here and keeps motivating me. She's copped a lot in the past but she deserves the credit for this one," said Kohli, who also adjourned the 'Man of the Match'.
Kohli says it was dressing room's victory
Further, Kohli said this win was much needed for the team and was a victory for the entire dressing room. Divulging how the team registered a win on the fifth-day, Kohli said there was no panic. "We dominated in this game because we put runs on the board and then the bowlers did well," he explained. The skipper added R Ashwin performed well despite an injury.
Now, Kohli is India's 2nd most successful captain, eclipsing Ganguly
With this game, Kohli now has 22 wins as Test captain to his resume. Sourav Ganguly captained India to 21 Test victories, making Kohli more successful. He is now only behind MS Dhoni, who helped India win 27 matches as captain. Kohli is an amazing batsman and a great captain, and now by dedicating the win to Kerala, he has won our hearts, again.
