Delhi: DU student, thought kidnapped, murdered by 'dating-app' friend
Two days ago, the body of a 21-year-old Delhi University (DU) student was found in Dwarka. He had been missing since a week. Police have now arrested his 25-year-old friend for the crime. The two had met on a dating app 10 days before the murder, cops said. After a fight, Ishrat Ali killed the victim, then called his family and demanded Rs. 50L.
Accused wanted to throw the police off his scent
In the 10 days, the victim had met Ishrat thrice, police said. On March 22, they met at a food joint near Dwarka Sector 13. But they had a fight and Ishrat hammered him to death. To mislead the investigation, Ishrat then made a ransom call to his family. He also sent them a photo of the victim with his hands and legs tied.
Police arrested him after finding the body
After they informed police, cops got reports from witnesses and confirmed his last known location at the eatery through CCTV footage. "On March 26, our teams waited for the kidnapper in Uttam Nagar where he had asked to deliver the money but he didn't come," said JCP Ajay Chaudhary. After the victim's body was found in Sector-13, they nabbed Ishrat.
